Eric Skawski (right) the narrator of History Treks
Eric, our historian, is an archaeologist with over a decade of professional experience. Born and raised in Calgary, Canada, Eric moved to England in 2017 and to Reading not long after. Eric has done work in four different countries, including Britain, and became fascinated with the interconnectedness of history and the world. Eric specialises in big-picture archaeology and finding connections between people. Having cut his teeth in Israel, Greece, and Roman Britain, Eric moved to co-found History Treks in 2023.
Starting in his adopted home of Reading, Eric became fascinated by “lesser-known” history, or those narratives which are often overlooked in the public eye. Reading, naturally, was one such place, overshadowed by the histories of London and Oxford. Yet, he saw Reading had a rich history too, if only it could be given a medium to shine. Using his analytical skills to research the town, Eric was able to craft History Treks’ first tours of Reading.
But beyond looking at a larger picture, Eric firmly believes that history is only useful if it is shared. An understanding of the past can inform decisions in the future. Eric has worked hard to make history accessible and understandable to the common person in a way that does not patronise them. He also runs the Travels with an Archaeologist YouTube channel and works internationally on green energy initiatives.
Eric tries to instil his own passion for history and interconnectivity into every tour he narrates, and hopes that you’ll enjoy listening to his tours for years to come.
